The Bourbaki Panorama is witness to 19th century audiences` of appetites for visual sensations.
The huge circular painting by Edouard Castres, which dates from 1881, is one of the most visually
arresting works in the history of the media: It is a visual sensation of the time before the cinema.

It is at once a stirring denouncement of war, and a moving testimonial to man`s capacity for humanitarian actions.

Around the Panorama - standard tour (duration: 60 Min.)

an overview of the media form, its history and its architecture.

The invention of Switzerland the tour emphasizes the aspects of
national identity (duration: 75 Min.):

from the Lion Monument to the Bourbaki Panorama. A history of Switzerland and how Switzerland became a humanitarian Nation.

Lucerne as a refuge (duration: 120 Min.)

The Bourbaki Panorama emerges from its premises with a new guided tour which combines the visit to Bourbaki Panorama Luzern with a tour in the city.

The Bourbaki Panorama has been housed in Lucerne since 1889. The internment of Frances Eastern Army not only gave rise to the creation of this circular painting, but also to the fact that the city of Lucerne is recorded as a hot-spot in the annals of war and internment of refugees; a story that, in fact, continued long after the internment of the Bourbaki troops.

On special request, we offer also architectural tours.

We offer all tours in german, english, and french

Absinthe-Degustation

As a memorable conclusion to your visit, we would be happy to organise an absinthe degustation for you with absinthe from Val-de-Travers. This is an excellent opportunity to sip the green fairy in the traditional manner - without going mad, of course.
